Fodor's Expert Review Jäger und Sammler

$$ Schöneberg German

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The name of this small, casual restaurant, a local favorite, means "hunter and gatherer" in German. The short daily menu of German classics is local and seasonal: hearty, meat-heavy winter fare might include pork belly with Beluga lentils or spinach gnocchi with roasted pumpkin, while spring and summer are devoted to the lighter gifts of field and forest (German favorite white asparagus makes a big debut in April or May). The interior is classic Berlin prewar, with long, rough wooden tables on top of old floor boards, white-painted walls and ceilings with ornate moldings, and a shelf full of cookbooks so visitors can do a bit of their own hunting and gathering to gain inspiration for their next home-cooked meal.
