Sweeping Beauty

When the author of the fairy tale, Charles Perrault, happened on the Château de Ussé one stormy night, he asked for permission to stay over (back then, châteaux were often used as "hotels" by travelers). He was so swept away by the castle's grandeur—it sprawls along a lengthy river embankment—he was inspired to write Sleeping Beauty and Puss in Boots.
