Fodor's Review:

Long a landmark of Loire luxe, this aristocratic outpost is across the river from Chaumont (which has a handy bridge) and some 4 km (2 mi) inland. This is no château but an 18th-century, turreted, vine-covered hunting lodge, replete with a grand salon furnished with 18th-century antiques, a lovely pool, an adorable swan lake, a helipad, 180 acres of forest for hikes, and the most blissful air-conditioning in all Touraine. Guest rooms are beige, suave, and tranquil; those in the adjacent coach house are more modern but can be considerably more spectacular—the best have exposed brick walls, couture fabrics, and timbered cathedral ceilings. The restaurant (closed Monday and Tuesday) is famous for its style and quality—an evening here glows with mellow lights, sumptuous white bouquets, and dazzling dishes like goose Rossini with mushroom risotto, showcased in the EUR 75 and EUR 95 prix-fixe menus. Later, purring patrons often repair to the salon for champagne to swap stories and toast their good luck at being here—and here. Pros: kingly service; luxurious style. Cons: no château architecture; pricey restaurant. Lydia

This is arguably the loveliest hotel I have ever stayed in. Our two rooms were expansive and individually decorated . One was classically elegant while the other was a large, beige-hued modern suite. Bathrooms were modern and outfitted with exceptionally luxurious fixtures. We stayed in the main building, but there are also several detached buildings. This choice means the hotel offers diversity of room styles and price points.

The dining room is famous, but for me the fare was a bit outlandish and extremely pricey. Moreover, the dining room was sweltering in June. Breakfasts were the best we had in France.

What makes the Domaine stand out above the others is the grounds. There ia a pond with swans, a real forest with long jogging trails, an observation tower and a fabulous pool and pool house at the end of a wooded path. Behind the hotel is a large vegetable garden and a cutting garden which provides fresh flowers for the rooms and common areas. The Domaine's bucolic acreage is fairly vast. One could spend many hours exploring it and not see it all.
