This small, white-walled hotel makes a pleasant base, though can be a little hard to find—take the N20 south from Orléans to Olivet, then turn right into Avenue de Verdun and continue parallel to the River Loiret for a mile or so. Each of the compact rooms has a little balcony with a view of the tree-lined Loiret River, with the best view from No. 4; the bathrooms are tiny. But this place is best known for its excellent restaurant (no lunch Saturday; no dinner Sunday, November-April), which has a wonderful terrace with lovely views of the Loiret River. The stylish menu changes with the season—if you're lucky, chef François Tassin's memorable lobster salad with mango or glazed green-apple soufflé with apple marmalade will be on tap. Pros: quiet setting; riverside restaurant. Cons: can be damp in fall and spring; few staff speak English. proprietor
