Angers

The bustling city of Angers, on the banks of the Maine River just north of the Loire, has a fine Gothic cathedral, a tempting selection of art galleries, plus a network of pleasant, traffic-free streets lined with half-timber houses. Its focal point, though, is the imposing, tower-ringed Château d'Angers. After contemplating the massive, medieval Apocalypse Tapestry, which is beautifully displayed inside it, cap your day with a sip of Cointreau, the popular, locally made liqueur.
