Le Sloop Review

This sleek port-side restaurant caters to the yachting crowd and sailors who cruise into dock for lunch. The focus is fish, of course: soupe de poisson (fish soup), St-Pierre (John Dory) steamed with asparagus, and roasted whole sea bass. Outdoor tables surround a tiny "garden" of potted palms. Chef Alain Therlicocq has manned the kitchen for 29 years and his five-course fixed menu, including a fish and meat dish, is one of the best values on the coast. Reservations are necessary in the summer, but if you arrive without, ask with a smile for a table and Alain's wife, Regine, will find you une p'tite place.

    Le Sloop Review

We disagree with the two previous reviews vehemently! We were at this restaurant about 4 years ago and since we were close by on our boat, decided to try it again after having had a wonderful experience. We were NOT disappointed in any way. We consider ourselves "foodies" as well and fortunately, have been to some of the very best restaurants as well as the more modest. We had an appetiser of Foie Gras Chaud which was prepared perfectly and was delicious. The main was St. Pierre a wonderful Mediterranean fish. All presented beautifully and was cooked to perfection. Our wine selection was a chablis from Regnard and it was reasonably priced and delicious. We both had a wonderful experience and hope that, if you are considering trying Le Sloop, that you do so and pay no attentionn to these other 'reviews' as we never experienced anything but polite and helpful service. Thank you.

    Le Sloop Review

I really should have checked this restaurant out on Fodors first, as our experience unfortunately mirrors the other review here. It was all going fine until we found a disgusting long curly black hair in our dish. We pointed this out, but nothing was said in return. We didn't say anything further until we were leaving, as we had expected SOME reference to this (verbally or in the bill). The response from management to our comments was simply shocking. I won't go into the full detail, but to say it was rude, arrogant and without a shred of dignity is putting it lightly. This place seems to thrive on the visits of 1 minor ageing UK celebrity (Michael Winner - don't worry if you haven't heard of him!!). They advertise his name rather than their food. That's a warning. I am also warning you that if anything goes wrong for you at this restaurant, you will be treated like a piece of dirt by management. I don't use that word lightly but it fits here. We are committed foodies and have plenty of experience worldwide of restaurants. This experience is like no other on sheer awfulness. Do not risk a lovely day in St-Jean Cap Ferrat by going here. Go anywhere else in the lovely harbour and experience what you came to do here. Stay away from Le Sloop.

    Expensive. Mediocre Food. Horrific Service!!!

Although Le Sloop is recommended in a number of travel guides as being the place to be, this should all be revised to be "the place NOT to be". My wife and I both speak fluent French and were treated as though we were stupid Americans. Ignoring us to the point where we found ourselves laughing out loud. The main course was "dropped" on the table with a thud with no regard to even a glimpse of care about the service. The fish was very over cooked, and the cheese platter was something I could put together with Costco cheese. One bottle of bad red wine and $250 for two people left us with a very very bad taste in our mouths. Even the valet parking people at the Grad Hotel du Cap thought the place was horrible. If you are going to spend the money to stay in St. Jean Cap Ferret, whatever you do, DO NOT have a meal at Le Sloop. By far the worst experience we had during the entire trip. Stay away from this evil rip-off trashy food stand!
