Massif de l'Estérel
Massif de l'Estérel Review
The rugged Massif de l'Estérel, between St-Raphaël and Cannes, is a hiker's dream. Made up of rust-red volcanic rocks (porphyry) carved by the sea into dreamlike shapes, the harsh landscape is softened by patches of lavender, scrub pine, and gorse. By car, take N7, the mountain route to the north, and lose yourself in the desert landscape far from the sea. A helpful website for walkers eager to trek the area is www.visitvar.fr.
