Carlton InterContinental

Exterior

At a Glance

    Pros

  • with the best location in Cannes, this iconic hotel has all the cliché and style that the rich and famous look for
  • service is remarkably unpretentious

    Cons

  • Wi-Fi is free in public spaces but costly for in-room use
  • some bathtooms are tiny
  • rooms at the back compensate for the lack of a sea view with cheery Provençal prints but avoid those looking out over the back parking/delivery area (very noisy early in the morning)

Carlton InterContinental Review

This deliciously pompous Neoclassical option enjoys a prime beachfront position—La Croisette seems to radiate symmetrically from its figurehead waterfront site—and ten deluxe suites on the top floor, each with unsurpassed sea views, as well as snazzy seafront rooms add to the cachet. It is no wonder Grace Kelly and Gary Grant shared star billing with the hotel in Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief. In fact, the Carlton still hosts many film-festival banquets in its gilt-and-marble Grand Salon (along with, alas, business conferences year-round). The health and fitness center, although small, are very well equipped. The restaurant is good, the brasserie swank, and the Bar des Célébrités lives up to its name during the film festival. Price includes breakfast.
