Citadelle Review

Head up Rue de la Citadelle to these 16th-century ramparts, which stand in a lovely hilltop park offering a fantastic view of the town and the sea. Although it's hard to imagine St-Tropez as a military outpost amid today's bikini-clad sun worshippers, inside the Citadelle's donjon the Musée Naval (Naval Museum) displays ship models, cannons, maps, and pictures of St-Tropez from its days as a naval port. At this writing the museum was closed for renovations, expected to reopen in late 2011. It's likely that the theme of the museum will change, but until that decision is made you can still see some of the navy models in the Citadelle, as well as a series of temporary art exhibitions.
