Ainhoa

Ainhoa

The Basque village of Ainhoa is officially registered among the villages selected by the national tourist ministry as the prettiest in France, a showcase town for the Labourd region established in the 13th century. Its streets are lined with lovely 16th- to 18th-century houses graced with whitewashed walls, flower-filled balconies, brightly painted shutters, and carved master beams. The Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption has a traditional Basque three-tier wooden interior with carved railings and ancient oak stairs. Explore Ainhoa's little streets, dotted with artisanal ateliers and art galleries. Unfortunately, you'll need your own wheels to get to Ainhoa.
