La Petite Maison de Cucuron Review
The tiny medieval village of Cucuron, 20 km (12½ miles) southeast of Bonnieux, had its minute of celluloid fame when Russell Crowe kissed Marion Cotillard here in Ridley Scott's A Good Year. Happily, the food at La Petite Maison de Cucuron is more memorable than the movie: glorious traditional French dishes are paraded to your white-linen-clothed table over the course of hours. Chef Eric Sapet spent 11 years working in a trio of multistar Parisian kitchens, and his market-fresh creations will literally make your contact lenses pop out. Choose between the Menu de la Maison (€46) or the Menu de Saison (€68); either way, you'll never forget what crossed your lips. Notable dishes include sea bass with pepper purée and a "runny" egg, French beef with pan-seared foie gras and stuffed vegetables, and shortcake with caramelized pecans served over Nutella with ice cream and warm apple purée. Head here for dinner after truffle hunting in Cadenet, a five-minute drive away (see Truffle Hunting at Les Pastras), and you will have had a perfect day in Provence.
