Alizé
At a Glance
- ideal location on the waterfront gives access to all shops and sights to see
Pros
- decor is badly in need of some tender love and care
Cons
Alizé Review
On the Vieux Port, its front rooms taking in postcard views, this straightforward lodging has been modernized to include tight double-pane windows, slick modular baths, and a laminate-and-all-weather carpeted look. Public spaces have exposed stone and historic details, and a glass elevator whisks you to your floor. It's an excellent value and location for the price. Breakfast is extra.

I stayed at the Alize twice, once in a room facing the Old Port and once in the back. I loved having the window on the port and watching boats and people at all hours. When I was across the street walking along the port, I'd look back and see sitting at window in the Alize, just as I had.
I did enjoy the hotel as much in the back room; lack of the view made it seem a bit dreary. I'd try to find another hotel with a view if the Alize has no water view rooms available. Both rooms were small, but comfortable with a smart use of space.
"...and a glass elevator whisks you to your floor."
The above statement is misleading; you have to climb one flight of stairs (with your luggage) to reach the elevator and the check-in desk, which was quite a surprise when I arrived. Both times I stayed, my rooms were on the floor where the elevator starts and stops, so it was no use to me, only helpful to people who have rooms on the higher floors.
The location is great, cafes and restaurants abound. Shopping is close. Ferries to the Calenques and Chateau d'If leave from a dock across the street.
I enjoyed sitting at the cafe next door drinking chilled wine and watching the color of the sea change in late afternoon.
I'd stay at the Alize again if a port-view room is available.
I'm rating the hotel 4 for atmosphere, meaning the location and view.
