Hostellerie le Beffroi Review

Crowned with a centuries-old stone clock tower and set on a cliff top in the Vieille Ville, this elegant grouping of 16th-century homes makes a fine little hotel. The extravagant salon decked out in period style leads to sizable rooms with beams and antiques; the big corner rooms have breathtaking views. The hotel restaurant, La Fontaine (closed for dinner Tuesday), has real flair, as one taste of the scallops with carrots and cumin soufflé or lamb filet in lavender honey will prove. From June through September you can dine on local specialties under the fig tree in the intimate enclosed garden court. In summer you can also take a dip in the rooftop pool. Meal plans are available with a two-night minimum stay. Rooms with a shower only are less expensive than with a bath.
