Musée de la Marine et de l'Economie de Marseille (Marine and Economy Museum)
Musée de la Marine et de l'Economie de Marseille (Marine and Economy Museum) Review
This is one of the many museums devoted to Marseille's history as a shipping port. Inaugurated by Napoléon III in 1860, this impressive building houses both the museum and the city's Chamber of Commerce. The front entrance and hallway are lined with medallions celebrating the ports of the world with which the city has traded, or trades still. The museum charts the maritime history of Marseille from the 17th century onward with paintings and engravings. It's a model-lover's dream, with hundreds of steamboats and schooners, all in miniature.
