Provence Restaurants

La Chassagnette

Updated 12/16/2013

Fodor's Review

Reputedly the original registered "organic" restaurant in Provence, this sophisticated yet down-home comfortable spot—located 12 km (7½ miles) south of Arles—is fetchingly designed and has a dining area that extends outdoors, where large family-style picnic tables await under a wooden-slate canopy overlooking the extensive gardens. Using ingredients that are grown right on the property, innovative master chef Armand Arnal (who has been awarded a Michelin star) serves

prix-fixe menus that are a refreshing, though not inexpensive, mix of modern and classic French-country cuisine—you can expect to pay €85–€125 per person. The à la carte options are equally admirable and much more affordable: picture a fillet of wild sole with roasted asparagus and bottarga for €35. Environmentally conscious oenophiles can wash it all down with a glass of eco-certified wine.
