Rocher des Doms (Rock of the Domes)

Rocher des Doms (Rock of the Domes) Review

Walk from the entrance to the Pont St-Bénézet along the ramparts to a spiral staircase leading to these hilltop gardens. Set with grand Mediterranean pines, this park on a bluff above town offers extraordinary views of the palace, the rooftops of Old Avignon, the Pont St-Bénézet, and formidable Villeneuve across the Rhône. On the horizon loom Mont Ventoux, the Luberon, and Les Alpilles. Often called the "cradle of Avignon," the rock's grottoes were among the first human habitations in the area. Today, the park also has a man-made lake, home to some swans.
