Moulin Rouge offered a circuslike atmosphere when it opened in 1889, and lured Parisians of all social stripes. Think elephants, donkey rides for the ladies, and the incomparable cancan revue. Today, the cancan is still a popular highlight of what is now more a Vegas-y show, starring 100 dancers, acrobats, ventriloquists, and contortionists, and more than 1,000 costumes. Dinner shows start at 7, standard shows at 9 and 11 (arrive 30 minutes early). Men are expected to wear a jacket and tie.
