Fodor's Review:
Count Danilo sang "I'm going to Maxim's" in Lehar's The Merry Widow. Leslie Caron was klieg-lighted here by Cecil Beaton for Gigi. And Audrey Hepburn adorned a banquette with Peter O'Toole in How to Steal a Million. In reality, Maxim's has lost some of its luster -- the restaurant had its heyday 100 years ago during the Belle Epoque, when le tout Paris swarmed here -- but this exuberant Art Nouveau sanctuary still offers a taste of the good life under its breathtaking painted ceiling. It's just a shame that Maxim's is so jaw-droppingly expensive for the type of food -- like the billy-bi mussel consommé with cream or braised sole in vermouth -- that would feel at home in a common brasserie. A set menu would attract a bigger crowd and make the room feel more festive.
