This cozy, family-run hotel is a block from the Gare de Lyon and has been open since 1903. Its turn-of-the-20th-century pedigree shows up in its curves and alcoves, and tall French windows let in plenty of light. The rooms have been done up in pale blues and lilacs, and have satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. The Marché Aligre and Viaduc des Arts artisan boutiques are just a few blocks away. Pros: easy access to major métro and train lines; friendly welcome. Cons: outdated decor; noisy traffic area; tiny elevator.

Aside from the need for a little paint and some new carpet, the hotel was fine. We loved how close it was to the metro station, especially late at night when we were tired of walking. Aside from the need for new carpet, wallpaper and a coat of paint, we would certainly stay here again.

We skipped the hotel breakfast, as it seemed too expensive. It was more fun to walk over to the Gare for a croissant and coffee anyway!
