$$$$, Île St-Louis
Fodor's Review:
Set off the street by heavy doors and a small courtyard, this unique hotel on Ile St-Louis was built within the stone walls and wooden beams of a 17th-century court where French aristocrats once played jeu de paume, an early version of tennis. The lounge bar and breakfast room, decorated with both contemporary and antique artworks, allow the best views of this amazing architecture. The rooms themselves are modern, with wood or tile floors, basic furnishings, small closets, and tiled bathrooms. Some bi-level rooms have narrow spiral staircases. Bonuses include Annick Goutal toiletries and, on the upper floors, ceiling fans. Pricier bi-level rooms and suites open onto a sunny garden patio.
