La Bourse ou La Vie

Fodor's Review

If you've been dreaming of the perfect steak frites in Paris, head for this eccentric little place run by a former architect in partnership with two loyal clients. The chairs in this cheery yellow-and-red dining room appear to have been salvaged from a theater, but they pair nicely with founder Patrice Tatard's theatrical streak. There's no questioning the threesome's enthusiasm for their new vocation when you taste the steak in its trademark creamy, peppercorn-studded sauce, accompanied by hand-cut french fries cooked to crisp perfection. Aside from a whole veal kidney with mustard sauce, there's little else on the menu.

La Bourse ou La Vie Review

How does such a modest joint get recommended by not one but two popular guides, Fodors and Time Out? LBLV's frites are the reason, but their steak isn't worth a special trip. And that's nearly all that's on the pretty limited menu. Destination dining it's not.
