This Haussmann-era budget hotel faces historic Gare de l'Est and is two blocks from Gare du Nord and the popular Canal St-Martin district. The decor isn't memorable, but it's still rare to find air-conditioning, elevators, hair dryers, free Wi-Fi, and trouser presses in rooms of this price, so fussing over the color of the curtains seems pointless. Some rooms overlook the charming indoor patio breakfast room. The busy neighborhood isn't very attractive, but the métro station across the street is a direct line to Notre-Dame, the Quartier Latin, St-Germain-des-Prés, and the Marché aux Puces. Pros: convenient for Eurostar travelers; many amenities for the price. Cons: noisy street; unattractive neighborhood.
