An impressive value, the Prima Lepic stands out among dozens of mediocre traps in this tourist zone. Elements from the original 19th-century building remain, such as vintage tiling in the entry and white iron furniture in the breakfast area. The bright rooms are full of spring colors and florals; the so-called Baldaquin rooms have reproduction canopy beds. Larger rooms are suitable for families but have little natural light. Pros: charming decor; surrounded by boutiques and cafés. Cons: no air-conditioning; thin walls; not convenient for getting to the center of town on foot.

I booked this hotel at the beginning and end of a 2-week trip to France. Our room was no gem: it looked onto a dark, narrow lightshaft, and was stuffy and awkwardly shaped. While traveling elsewhere in France I thus decided to cancel my return stay. I sent an email to reception via a Blackberry asking to cancel my return reservation. I expected this to be a easy process. Instead, reception replied that I could only cancel my reservation through the hotel website. I replied that I did not have access to the Internet and asked again if they could cancel the reservation. They replied with a copy of my original reservation notice and stated that, sorry, that was their policy. I pointed out that the policy didn't specifically state that I could ONLY cancel through the website, at which point reception said that they would speak to the manager but couldn't guarantee a one-night cancellation fee wouldn't be charged. By this point I really didn't want to return to the hotel so I frantically searched for an Internet cafe (the cancellation deadline was a few hours away). As it turned out, I couldn't cancel through the website either because my first stay had aleady passed, and the two stays were under one reservation number. (The website doesn't allow changes to reservations where the first arrival date has already passed.) I send another email to reception pointing out that the website wouldn't allow me to cancel in any event and could they please do it for me? Only then did I get an email saying they wouldn't charge me a 110 Euro cancellation fee. Who needs this kind of aggravation when travelling? We ended up staying at the Hotel Kyriad near the Gare du Nord. The room was cheaper and superior in every respect. The Hotel Prima-Lepic does have a great location but that is the only thing going for it. Note that the rooms are not air-conditioned and I suspect that they would be sweatboxes in the summer.
