Once an annex to a local convent, this 18th-century hôtel particulier has retained its stone walls and beams juxtaposed with red-clay tile floors and antiques. A wood-banistered stair leads to the small but proper rooms, decorated with basic red carpet and green bedspreads. One room is equipped with a kitchenette. The hotel is in Village St-Paul, a little tangle of medieval lanes just south of the well-traveled Marais, though it is not yet itself overrun by tourists. Pros: quiet area of Le Marais within walking distance of the islands and Bastille; historic Parisian character. Cons: no elevator; small rooms with outdated decor.

I was traveling with two teenage boys and found the Hotel Ste Louis Marais to be a clean, charming, and centrally located place to stay. The main building was a 17th century convent at one time and we were in an adjacent building with two separate and spacious rooms. The bathrooms are updated, everything worked well and we had a secure, separate entrance to our building. the rooms had high ceilings, sautillo tiled floors and were spacious. The hotel serves breakfast in the morning and the staff was friendly, helpful and considerate. Don't expect a 5 star accomodation but for the price, this was exceptional.
