Bistrot des Deux Théâtres
Bistrot des Deux Théâtres Review
This theater-lover's bistro with red-velour banquettes, black-and-white photos of actors, and a giant oil painting depicting celebrities, is always packed, and with good reason. The great-value prix-fixe menu for €39 (there's no à la carte) includes a kir royale (sparkling white wine with cassis), three courses, half a bottle of unpretentious wine, and coffee. This isn't a place for modest eaters, so have foie gras or escargots to start, a meaty main such as the crackly crusted rack of lamb, and a potent baba au rhum or rustic lemon meringue tart for dessert. Waiters are jokey, English-speaking, and efficient.

Cheftam, from Montreal
We travel a lot, My husband is a chef, and we love to try new restaurants when we are away, and this one was not or usual choice but it looked like a good value and was in our neighbourhood. We like Paris in part because we speak french (we're Canadian bilingual), quite well by their standards considering that we are from Quebec and we have an accent all our own. Still, we were treated very rudely. We ordered an item that didn't look quite right upon presentation but were told, no this is the way the dish is (even though as a chef my husband knew it wasn't). By happenstance, the next table ordered the same thing, obviously locals in their dialect, and they had a gorgeous presentation with the proper items. Other things during the meal were also inconsistent but after I finally but politely said something, I was rudely told that perhaps we should eat elsewhere. I couldn't believe it! We are paying over 70 Euros for this! We are not complainers by any standard and I've never had such awful service or treatment.
