Bofinger
Bofinger Review
One of the oldest, loveliest, and most popular brasseries in Paris has generally improved in recent years, so stake out one of the tables dressed in crisp white linen under the glowing Art Nouveau glass cupola and enjoy classic brasserie fare: stick to trademark dishes such as the seafood, choucroute, steak tartare, or smoked haddock with spinach, as the seasonal specials can be hit-or-miss. Take advantage of the reduced French sales tax with prix-fixe menus for €28.50 (two courses) and €33.50 (three courses).

I love this beautiful restaurant. My first visit was years ago after a long, tiring flight. My Parisian friend and I did not have a reservation but were given a table quickly. The staff could not have been kinder realizing immediately that I could use a little TLC. I had some grilled fish that was superb. Now I go there every time I am in Paris. The desserts are wonderful as well and the atmosphere is pure old time Parisian. Definitely worth a meal. Highly recommend this place for lunch. Also a response to davegold: If you only eat vegetables and fish, then order vegetables and fish - don't make a big deal out of your eating habits. You are not in the US.

After having read reviews of Bofinger, we were excited to go, made a reservation well in advance, and were on time for our reservation. Unfortunatly, our waiter wasn't so excited when we told him (in our broken French) that we ate vegetarian and fish only. I'm pretty sure, actually, that he said "you should go to an italian restaurant", in addition to scoffing at us after taking our order.
The food was good, traditional French food. What ruined the meal was the poor waiter. Other staff were good, but he didn't check up on us (at all), left us sitting for extended periods after we finished our course, and made us feel that were in his way. (And we did our best to be unfailingly polite).
For a meal priced at a premium (our meal was around 125 Euros), we expected premium service. We simply didn't get it.
(Our waiter looked like the bald guy from Benny Hill, in case you go there and get him)
