Église St-Merry

Église St-Merry Review

This impressive Gothic church, in the shadow of the Centre Pompidou, was completed in 1550 and has a turret containing the oldest bell in Paris (cast in 1331) and an 18th-century pulpit supported on carved palm trees. There are free concerts Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 4 pm. See the Web site for more information.

I wandered down an alley after visiting the George Pompidou art museum and happened upon this beautiful cathedral. In my opinion, it was just as amazing as many of the others, including the Notre Dame (without flying buttresses, of course) and with no lines or price tag. The doors were open and I just walked in. Some amazing artwork, inspiring vaulted ceilings and arches, an antique music stand, and much more. Check it out if you're nearby!
