The Chopin recalls its 1846 birth date with a creaky-floored lobby and aged woodwork. The basic but comfortable rooms overlook the Passage Jouffroy's quaint toy shops and bookstores or the rooftops of Paris, but none face the busy nearby streets. The best rooms end in "7" (No. 407 overlooks the Grévin Wax Museum's ateliers), whereas those ending in "2" tend to be darkest and smallest (but cheapest). Pros: unique location; close to major métro station; great nightlife district. Cons: neighborhood can be noisy; some rooms are dark and cramped; few amenities.
