Maison de l'architecture d'lle de France-Les Recollets

Religious Sites, République

Fodor's Review:

If you're heading to Canal St-Martin, pause at this elegant Renaissance monastery, created by Marie de' Medici. After stints as a military hospital (in the 1800s) and an artists' squat (in the 1980s), the site has become a center for architecture workshops and an international artists' residence. Walk down rue des Recollets to see the yellow day-care center created by Frédéric Borel (a rising star in the "architectural hedonism" movement in Paris), or take a break in the small garden behind the Recollets, which leads to the canal -- a great place for people-watching on the weekend.
