Modern French
L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon. Famed chef Joël Robuchon had retired from the restaurant business for several years before opening this red-and-black-lacquered space with a bento-box-meets-tapas aesthetic. Seats line up around U-shape bars; this novel plan encourages neighbors to share recommendations and opinions. Robuchon and his devoted kitchen staff whip up "small plates" for grazing (EUR 10-EUR 25) as well as full portions, which turn out to be more of a bargain. Highlights from the oft-changing menu have included an intense tomato jelly topped with avocado puree, thin-crusted mackerel tart, and his inauthentic (but who's complaining?) take on carbonara with cream and Alsatian bacon. Bookings are taken for the 11:30 AM and and 6:30 PM sittings only.

If you can get past the reservation process....
Posted by Niccolo from Mexico City on 10/25/07
I tried reservations on several occasions, but the process was obscure and they were always booked, almost a little rude. But I guess this is the way it has to be if you are in Paris and you serve some of the most wonderful food the city has to offer. I had dinner there on 3 different occasions and they do not stop amazing me. Bring your wallet - full. you will need it.

I dream of L'ATELIER

My husband and I travel the world and love food. So after we tried L'Atelier, how can anywhere else compete. We have frequented the restaurant numerous times and are addicted to the phenomenal food, service, presentation, and atmosphere. I believe Joel is pure genius and his food pairings are extraordinary.
