$$-$$$, Bistro, Montparnasse
Fodor's Review:
Bistro
Contre-Allée. Rive Gauche students (the well-off ones, at least) and professors pile into this cream-and-brown restaurant for ambitious bistro cooking -- many of the starters have foie gras as their main ingredient (try the homemade terrine with chutney and spice bread). Main courses such as monkfish in a citrus crust with buttery sweet potatoes show that the kitchen isn't growing jaded. Owner Philippe Mollicchi lived in the United States for 20 years, which might explain why the restaurant is so welcoming to English-speakers. Best value are the prix-fixe menus for EUR 25 at lunch and EUR 35 at dinner.
