Fodor's Review:

People come here more for the bonhomie and the stunning 1896 interior than the cooking, which could be politely described as unambitious. This cavernous restaurant -- the only original fin-de-siécle bouillon to remain true to its mission of serving cheap, sustaining food to the masses -- enjoys a huge following. You may find yourself sharing a table with strangers as you study the long, old-fashioned menu of such standards as pot-au-feu and blanquette de veau. The simplest dishes bring the most satisfaction.

Worst Food In the Entire Universe

Posted by Karen from Phoenix, AZ on 7/14/06

Go there to see the decor...turn-of-the century Parisian. Yes it is cheap, but not for the horrible stuff you get. I would only have a glass of wine there if I had to go back, chances are I would not go there again. Shame on Fodor's for recommending it in their 2006 book Fodor's Paris.

A very Parisian experience

Posted by Paul from Liverpool, England on 6/16/06

Fantastic food with a real Parisian flavour. Waiters who have been working there since before the war all add to the experience. Thoroughly recommended!

Worst Meal We Ever Had Anywhere in the World!

Posted by Maureen from Philadelphia, PA on 2/23/06

Waiter gave us no help in deciphering the menu and we ordered what we guessed (hoped!)was filet of sole. We aren't sure what kind of fish but it was very grey with a grey flour & water sauce. The only discernable seasoning was some chopped parsley. This gelatinous mess was accompanied by two boiled potatoes with parsley sprinkled on top. We didn't eat the dinner and left as soon as we got the check. Amazingly there were people waiting for tables when we left. It was a total waste of our last evening meal in Paris and after having so many wonderful meals I don't understand how this restaurant can be listed in Fodors when the quality is so poor.

The Bill Is Ur Table

Posted by Samantha from Bristol, Uk on 2/12/06

Great atmosphere, really unique somewhat cheap withh basic food but the food seems great if yoou've been travelling all day. Very french, good laugh, try and get seats up above the rest because you can really get a feel for the place and is a great view point.
