$$$$, Haute French, Quartier Latin
Fodor's Review:
La Tour d'Argent had a difficult year in 2006 with the loss of a Michelin star, the death of owner Claude Terrail, and a change of chefs. It remains to be seen whether this landmark restaurant will survive, but there is no denying the splendor of its setting overlooking the Seine. If you don't want to splash out on dinner, treat yourself to the set-price lunch menu for a relatively accessible EUR 70. This entitles you to succulent slices of one of the restaurant's numbered ducks (the great duck slaughter began in 1919 and is now well past the millionth mallard, as your numbered certificate will attest). The most celebrated dish, canard au sang (duck in a blood-based sauce), is available à la carte or for a EUR 22 supplement. Don't be too daunted by the vast wine list -- with the aid of the sommelier you can splurge a little (about EUR 80) and perhaps taste a rare vintage Burgundy from the extraordinary cellars, which survived World War II.
