Starting out as an old Norman half-timber farmhouse, this hotel now sprawls with more than 50 rooms and a lush, glossy swimming pool terrace. Set just outside Honfleur, near the Forest of St-Gatien, it remains a fine base for horseback riding (on-site facilities) or a round of golf at the nearby 18-hole course. Guest rooms in the main house are rustic, with exposed beams and traditional furniture; those in the annex lack character, but have terraces that open out to the swimming pool. The restaurant, Le Michels, serves succulent Norman fare, such as blood sausage with roast apples, or grilled lamb with eggplant caviar. Reservations are essential. Pros: nice restaurant; handy for sports. Cons: out of town; rooms split between three sites.
