Dining under the watchful eye of the charming Danièle Chavant is a pleasure at this ivy-covered mansion -- note that the dining room is closed Saturday lunch, Sunday dinner, and Monday -- in Bresson, a 15-minute drive south of town (out Avenue J. Perrot to Avenue J. Jaurès, which becomes route D269). The lobster smothered in truffles is wonderfully wicked and wholly delicious, while the civet de biche en robe d'automne (venison with apples, potatoes, and turnips in a daube sauce) is unforgettable. Rooms are elegant and spacious, overlooking meadows and forests beyond the lush garden and pool.
