Charmingly set on the pedestrian street that leads to Azay's château gates, this red-shuttered town house hides an authentic, 19th-century schoolhouse within a delightful courtyard-garden, now fitted out with cozily traditional guest rooms (and the stray blackboard and school desk). No matter if you can't land one of the conversation pieces in "La Classe" -- the other chambers are fine enough, decorated in pastels as warm as the delightfully helpful owners, the Mariotons. The village has quite a few restaurant selections -- if you just don't want to stroll around and pick, ask Cédric and Emmanuelle about the best.
