When to Go to Corsica

The best time to visit Corsica is fall or spring, when the weather is cool. Most Corsican culinary specialties are at their best between October and June. Try to avoid July and August, when mostly French and Italian vacationers fill hotels, crowd beaches, and jam roads. Prices soar and the Corsican temperament is at its most volatile. In winter the island has the best weather in France, but a majority of the hotels and restaurants are closed.

General Travel Advisory: In recent years, there has been a spate of bombings and fatal shootings in Corsica. Organized crime feuds plague the serene landscape, and recent attacks of government offices, restaurants, supermarkets, discos, and private villas have earned Corsica the highest homicide rate per capita in France and Western Europe. Tourists have not been direct targets; however, travelers should be vigilant when driving and touring, especially solo. Avoid isolated and unknown regions, especially at night. Although traveling in Corsica's popular areas is overall safe, visitors should use discretion when sightseeing and exploring—avoid ostentatious displays of wealth by keeping expensive jewelry and belongings at home or in your hotel safe.
