Corsica Sights

Filitosa Review

Filitosa is the site of Corsica's largest grouping of megalithic menhir statues. The sensorial tour begins with a beautiful stroll down a bucolic tree-lined path with mesmerizing instrumental music emanating from hidden speakers. Discover enigmatic life-size stone figures of ancient warriors that rise up mysteriously from the undulating terrain, many with human faces whose features have been flattened over time by erosion. A small museum on the site houses archaeological finds, including the menhir known as Scalsa Murta, whose delicately carved spine and rib cage are surprisingly contemporary for a work dating from some 5,000 years ago. The guidebook in English (€5) by experts Cesari and Acquaviva is supplemented by information in English at each site. After your tour, enjoy a beverage at the small brasserie, where members of the Cesari family proudly discuss the site's historic discoveries on the personal property of Charles-Antoine Cesari in 1946.
