Bastion de l'Étendard (Bastion of the Standard)

Bastion de l'Étendard (Bastion of the Standard) Review

From place d'Armes at the city gate, enter the 13th century Bastion de l'Étendard, where you can still see the system of weights and levers used to pull up the drawbridge. The former garrison, the last remaining part of the original fortress, now houses life-size dioramas of Bonifacio's history which describes the bombardment of the bastion in the 16th century Franco-Turkish war. A visit gives you access to the memorial and Vestiges garden. Climb the steep steps and be rewarded with an incredible panoramic view of the white-chalk cliffs and stunning coastline.
