Porto Vecchio

With a compact Old Town of cobblestone streets lined with charming buildings, a modern marina teeming with yachts, and white-sand beaches lapped by turquoise water, Porto Vecchio is most attractive. Place de République, the main square, is filled with lively restaurants and cafés, as is the neighboring Cours Napoléon. There are more along the harbor area, where you can purchase tickets for boat trips to Bonifacio or the nature preserve on the Lavezzi Islands. Walking the Old Town is easy with the tourist office's free map of historic sights, including well-maintained fortresses. For great views, walk along the top of the ancient wall, especially near the the Porte Genoise Gate.
