When to Go to Champagne Country

Of course, the best time of the year to visit is around the fall harvest of the Champagne vineyards, when the weather is usually at its best. In summer the coolness of the chalk cellars makes it a pleasure to visit the Champagne houses, many which close after the busy winter holidays for the first few months of the year along with some of the smaller hotels and restaurants. Spring is generally unpredictable when it comes to the weather, but on the dry and sunny days it can be one of the best times to visit before the summer crowds arrive (although, compared to many other regions of France, Champagne remains relatively uncrowded in July and August). Whatever you plan to do, plan a visit to this region between May and October; the ubiquitous vineyards are a dismal, leafless sight the rest of the year.
