In use since the 19th century, La Cloche is a successful cross between a luxury chain and a grand hotel. The entry hall is imposing, and the gleaming bar has smart leather chairs. Rooms are large and plush; try to get one overlooking the tiny, tranquil back garden and its reflecting pool. The garden is also the backdrop for the stylish restaurant, Les Jardins de la Cloche. Pros: very comfortable beds; attentive staff. Cons: bad soundproofing; ostentatious lobby.
