Abbaye de Cîteaux

Fodor's Review:

Near Clos de Vougeot at St-Nicolas-lès-Cîteaux is the Abbaye de Cîteaux, where the austere Cistercian order was founded in 1098 by Robert de Molesmes. The abbey has housed monks for more than 900 years. From D996, follow signs that point the way along a short country road that breaks off from the road to Château de Gilly, a four-star hotel.

  • Cost: EUR 7 guided tour
  • Open: May-Sept., Wed.-Sat. 9:45-12:45 and 2:15-6, Sun. noon-6:30; see Web site for tour times.
