Nuits-St-Georges

Nuits-St-Georges

Wine has been made in Nuits-St-Georges since Roman times; its "dry, tonic, and generous qualities" were recommended to Louis XIV for medicinal use. But this is also the heart of currant country, where crops yield up the wonderfully delicious ingredient known as cassis (the signature taste of the famous Kir cocktail). The Cassissium,in a sparkling glass and steel building, explores the world of cassis using films, interactive displays, guided tours of Védrenne's liqueur production, and even a "slot" fruit machine. A cassis tasting is the final stop. Rue des Frères Montgolfier. 03-80-62-49-70. www.cassissium.com. EUR 6.80. Apr.-late Nov., daily 10-11:30, 2-5:30; late Nov.-Mar., Tues.-Sat. 10:30-11:30, 2-4.
