Relais Gourmand Olivier Roellinger

Fodor's Review:

The name of this place sounds the trumpet for chef Olivier Roellinger, who grew up in this grand 18th-century, St-Malo-style stone house. Fittingly for the resident of a town named "Oysters," he has mastered the cuisine marine of this region to perfection. Even those landlocked lubbers, Parisians, don't think twice about driving here just for dinner. Their 400-km-long (250-mi-long) drive is worth it: glowing murals, a domed conservatory, stone fireplaces, spotlighted trees, a duck pond, and antique tiles all welcome them in cozily imposing style. But the main attraction is Roellinger's way with seafood, showcased in set menus that start at EUR 100. He leaves moules à la cancalaise (mussels with butter)—the basic specialty of the region—in the dust with all sorts of culinary fireworks, such as the spiced consommé of cancalaises and foie gras or the John Dory steamed in seaweed and coconut milk. Luscious desserts all seduce, including farm raspberries with angelica and "churned" milk. The restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. If you wish to stay the night, attractive rooms (with spectacular views across the oyster beds toward Mont-St-Michel) are available in the luxe Les Rimains cottage on Rue des Rimains, a short walk away.
