SIIDA Center

SIIDA Center Review

The SIIDA Center, on the village outskirts, hosts exhibits on the Sami people and the northern seasons. The center houses the and the Ylä-Lapin luontokeskus (Northern Lapland Nature Center). The museum's permanent exhibitions include one on the evolution of nature and culture from the Ice Age to the present, while the main exhibit focuses on the unique natural features of northern Finland's arctic environment. Temporary exhibitions might focus on Sami history or art, nature photographs, or conservation. A 17-acre open-air museum complements the indoor exhibits at the center during the summer with displays of old Sami dwellings, trapping, and fishing gear.
