The general emergency number is 112; call it for any emergency situation. Coins are not needed to make this call on pay phones. If you summon an ambulance, specify whether the situation seems life-threatening so medical attendants can prepare for immediate treatment in the ambulance.

Töölön Sairaala is about 2 km (1 mi) from the city center, with a 24-hour emergency room and first-aid service. Mehiläinen is a private health-care chain that offers 24-hour service in the Helsinki area. You can call their number or get a walk-in appointment at their medical center on Runeberginkatu.
