Finlandiatalo (Finlandia Hall),the home of the Helsinki Philharmonic, hosts visiting world-class orchestras. Finland has produced numerous fine conductors, and because many of them are based abroad—Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Paavo Berglund, for example—their homecomings are lavishly fêted, as are performances by opera diva Karita Mattila.
