Helsinki has some of Finland's best restaurants. Although Russian cuisine is the star attraction, try to seek out Finnish specialties such as game—pheasant, reindeer, hare, and grouse—accompanied by wild-berry compotes and exotic mushroom sauces.

Most restaurants close on major national holidays—only a few hotel restaurants stay open for Christmas. Many of the more expensive establishments close on weekends.
