Fodor's Review

A jewel box built in 1788 and still an active community playhouse, this theater and museum, Britain's most complete Georgian playhouse in its original form, retains original features such as the wooden seating from which patrons watched 18th-century Shakespearean leading man David Garrick. During the hourly tours from Monday to Saturday between 10 and 4 (mid-February through October), you can see Britain's oldest painted scenery dating back to 1836 and try on theatrical costumes. There's also an extensive theatrical archive that contains scripts, playbills, and images.
